The Summer Time Music Hall was first introduced in Basingstoke by Age Concern in 2003. For the first four years, the event was staged at the Haymarket Theatre, selling out in 2005 & 2006. Due to popular demand, Age Concern took the show to the Anvil Theatre in 2007 in order to increase audience capacity. Again, we achieved a sell-out, bringing an enjoyable evening of Music Hall /Variety type entertainment to more than a 1000 people! The 2008 Production achieved the same results playing to capacity. Once again on 19 July 2009 the show will be at The Anvil, Basingstoke.
The show, devised, compiled and directed by Miss Helen Watson, encompasses all styles of musical entertainment from music hall, variety, vaudeville, modern day musicals with some comedy sketches as well. Miss Watson and Company helped to raise more than £10,000 for the charity at these performances.
We hope you will join us for an evening of music and entertainment from a bygone era and participate in some memorable songs composed and written many years ago. Come and remember the good old days. We encourage you to sing along — as the saying goes..."A little of what you fancy does you good". All money raised from this event will help Age Goncern in Basingstoke to continue providing services for local older people. Contact us on 01256 423874 if you wish to find out more. .
